Genesis collected whole
Genesis 1–50, from creation to Joseph, is collected; where the text gives two accounts of a name, both stand.
Genesis was collected in blocks of about five chapters. Along the way the collection learned a few rules it still follows: a place keeps its second name as an alias, three accounts of Esau’s wives stand apart rather than being merged, and the verse that gives a person a name is the one that carries it.
