Ten editions renamed, and what each edition is
Ten editions had names that did not match what they are. They now go by the right name, and every correction says why and cites its source; the supplier's texts are left as they are.
The edition library takes its editions and their names from eBible.org. Checking each edition against its own description and its text showed that some names were wrong or misleading. Each correction is now shown in the edition’s information (“About this record”), with eBible’s name beside it and links to the sources.
Renamed
- Patriarchal Text (1904), listed by eBible as the “Byzantine Greek NT”. Scholars use “Byzantine” for the Robinson-Pierpont text, which is the next one.
- Robinson-Pierpont Byzantine Text (2018), listed as the “Greek Majority Text NT”.
- Hebrew Bible, unpointed, with Delitzsch’s NT, listed as the “Modern Hebrew Bible”. It is not a modern translation.
- Septuagint (Greek Orthodox text), listed as “SEPTUAGINTA”. It is the church text from Mount Athos, not Rahlfs’s edition.
- Shinkaiyaku NT (1965), listed as the “New Japanese NT”.
- Statenvertaling (1917 edition), listed as the “Dutch Bible 1917”.
- Kulish–Puluj Bible (1905), listed as the “Ukrainian Bible by P. Kulish”.
- Coptic Bohairic NT (church text), listed as the “Coptic NT”; its spelling is Bohairic.
- Two spellings: Coptic “Boharic” is Bohairic, and “Old Persion” is Old Persian. The Burmese, Thai and Chinese editions now give their languages’ own names correctly.
The same text twice
- ronlsb is ronbl verse for verse. It is left out of the edition list; old links to it still open.
- srp1865 and srp1868 are the Daničić–Karadžić translation in Latin and in Cyrillic script, letter for letter. Both stay, and each says so.
- hbo, hboWLC and hebwlc are the Westminster Leningrad Codex. Only hbo prints the Qere beside the Ketiv, in 1,091 verses.
- ukrfb is ukr1871 with 30 verses changed.
As the supplier has it
These texts are shown exactly as supplied, and their information says so:
- The Robinson-Pierpont text has no accents and writes a final sigma as σ.
- Ten verses of hboWLC keep formatting codes for enlarged letters, for example Deuteronomy 6:4.
- In the church Coptic text, Acts 8 has 39 verses where most editions have 40.
- eBible describes its Swahili Bible as Krapf’s portions of 1850, but the text is modern Swahili. Which edition it is has not been identified.
